Tim Hanstad
Vice-Chair, Chandler Foundation; Co-Founder, Landesa & Catalyst Now
Tim Hanstad is a recognized leader in driving philanthropic and civil society engagement with governments to foster good governance, social justice, and shared prosperity. As Vice-Chair of the Chandler Foundation, he continues to shape its mission, having previously served as the organization’s inaugural Chief Executive Officer for five years. In addition, Tim is a Senior Ambassador and member of the Leadership Council at the World Justice Project.
Alongside Roy Prosterman Tim co-founded Landesa, the world's leading land rights organization. He served as its CEO for five years, helping to grow the organization and its impact from a two-person start-up to a Global Top Ten NGO. He launched Landesa’s programs in China, the former Soviet Union, and India, where he has lived for many years.
A Skoll Social Entrepreneur Awardee and World Economic Forum Outstanding Social Entrepreneur, Tim is also a Leap of Reason Ambassador and co-founder of Catalyst Now. His thought leadership has been featured in prominent publications, including The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, Washington Post, Stanford Social Innovation Review, and the Huffington Post.
Tim holds two law degrees from the University of Washington, a bachelor’s degree from Seattle Pacific University, where he was named Male Athlete of the Year, and has completed executive programs at Harvard Business School and the Kennedy School of Government. Tim is a proud husband to Chitra and father to four adult children, who are a constant source of inspiration. His most profound lessons, however, have come from engaging with people living on the socioeconomic margins in 20+ countries.
